Consultation Portal

Why are we asking for your views on Housing Options?

Waverley Borough Council has been working on a plan for the future of the Borough through a series of documents which will encompass the Local Development Framework (LDF) and which will, over time, replace the Waverley Borough Local Plan.

The most important document to be produced will be the Core Strategy. It will be the central document setting out the overall planning strategy for Waverley up to 2026.

What are Housing Options?

One of the key challenges for the Council will be how Waverley can accommodate the new housing that is required in the areas. The South East Plan (2009) sets out the housing allocations across the region and Waverley is required to provide for at least 5,000 additional homes between 2006 and 2026.

This is an important issue for the Council and we would like to know the views of residents, businesses, local organisations and others with an interest in Waverley on how best to accommodate these new homes. We have identified five possible options and would like to know which you prefer. If you feel that there are other options, or a combination of options, the consultation also provides you with the opportunity to let us know.

This consultation builds on the earlier consultation on issues and options for the Core Strategy which took place in February and March 2009.

How long do you have to respond?

The consultation will run from 27th January to 31st March 2010. (Extended from 10th March)

What information is available?

We know that trying to decide on how, why and where new housing should go is a difficult decision to make, and one which has to be right in the long term. We also know from previous consultation events that long technical documents can discourage participation. However, there are  those who want to have the more detailed background information in order to make representations.

We have therefore produced two documents for this consultation, but the same questionnaire applies to both.

  • Housing Options - Building for Our Borough: Non Technical Summary

The first is a non- technical summary leaflet which sets out the five identified options and the advantages and disadvantages of each option. As you are now within the Council's Planning Consultation Portal, we would encourage you to make your choice of preferences here.

Hard copies of this leaflet with the attached questionnaire are also available to download from our website, and can be collected from the Council Offices in Godalming, the other Locality Offices in Farnham, Haslemere and Cranleigh, and also the local libraries.

  • Housing Options: Technical Document

This is a more comprehensive background document containing more detail and technical information concerning the housing options. The questionnaire is not attached to the hard copy of this document.
